Double Open-Ended, Top Sample Loading 32 and 40 mm XRF Sample Cups Offer Two Pressure Equalization Methods
The 1500 Series cells are open on both ends and incorporate similar configurations to accept either of the two included Snap-On Rings. One cup end is used to attach a thin-film window and the flanged end is for attaching Microporous Film or Vented Snap-On Caps for pressure equalization purposes in vacuum and helium environments; both intended to ensure a flat sample plane-to-excitation source distance.

Microporous Film is a specially processed gas permeable polypropylene film. In an evacuated condition, it allows the withdrawal of air entrapped in a sample cup. Sample particles and liquid molecules are too large to pass through the tortuous pore channels. In helium, the micron size channels permit permeation into the sample cup. This bi-directional feature maintains a taut thin-window.
Vented Snap-On Caps incorporate four narrow slits and concentric ridges on the interior. When assembled to the flanged end of the cell, a series of physical barriers is established. The barriers serve to offer resistance to sudden particle displacement initially developed by vacuum surge through the slits. In helium, the slits allow the introduction of the inert gas into the sample cup. The sample window plane is maintained taut for uniform flat thin-film windows.
Optionally available are 32 mm diameter sample cups with serrated cutting edges incorporated in the Snap-On Rings for attaching and trimming both Microporous Film and thin-film windows. The handy Palm Held Fastener and Snap-On Ring Fastener facilitate affixing windows.
