Traditional 32 and 40 mm Single Open-Ended XRF Sample Cups with Venting Provision and Optional Use of Micro-Sample Mounting Provisions
This traditional sample cup series consists of a cell, collar and Snap-On Ring. Used in its traditional sense, a sample is inserted in the cell using the collar to temporarily retain a thin-film window in readiness for affixing it with a Snap-On Ring to the cell. For applications in vacuum or helium, puncturing through one of two vent holes provide the escape path for maintaining pressure equalization and avoiding the thin-film from departing from a flat planar sample surface.

The expanded use includes internal standard and micro sample mounting for limited amounts of powdered and liquid samples. A 4 mm diameter recession in the bottom of the cell accepts a rod or capillary tube with an internal standard or micro sample mounted on its end. Alternatively, use of the collar serves to secure a piece of window material as a substrate for placing a powdered or liquid sample; the Snap-On Ring firmly retains the samples "sandwiched" between the window and window substrate. An evacuation path is established by puncturing one of two integrated thermoplastic seals. One is offset for micro sample applications. The unique bead-to-indent geometry of the Snap-On Ring and cell neck forms wrinkle free sample planes and leak resistant seals. For convenience, 32 mm sample cups with integrated serrated edged Snap-Rings are available for attaching and trimming excess window materials.
An optionally available Vent Hole Punch forms uniform venting passages and the Palm Held Fastener or Snap-On Ring Fastener is used to affix thin-film windows.
