Gas Permeable Microporous Polypropylene Film
Microporous Film is used in conjunction with the 1500 Series Sample Cups for establishing and maintaining pressure equalization conditions between the sample cup and sample chamber. This important aspect ensures that the sample plane, defined by the window, remains flat under vacuum or helium operating conditions. Concaved or distended sample planes affect the distance to the excitation source implying greater or lesser analyte concentrations, respectively, than actuality.
The significant feature of Microporous Film is the infinite gas permeable evacuation paths it provides through tortuous micro pore channels. The dimensions of the pore channels prohibit powdered sample particles and liquids from permeating but allow gas permeation. Under vacuum, pressure differentials within the sample cup and sample chamber are equalized by evacuation of entrapped air from the sample cup through the pore channels. Similarly, analysis performed under helium permit permeation of entrapped air and helium. This process maintains flat thin-film sample window planes and a uniform sample plane-to-excitation source distance for statistically reproducible analytical data.
Microporous Polypropylene Film is available in continuous roll form and in precut circles that offer convenience, ease of use and eliminates waste. The precut circles are packaged in units of 100 that correspond to the number of 1500 Series sample cups in a pack.
